La Vraitchiéthe

Eune vraitchiéthe or eune vratchiéthe means a vraic-covered rock. There's a prominent rock by this name in Saint Aubin's Bay, and there are others by that name around Jersey. Vratchiéthe is also a word used by Gorey fisherman for a wire cage for catching du vra - wrasse. Whether the rock name derives primarily from vrai or vra is a question etymologists wrangle over, but the Dictionnaire Jersiais-Français connects the rock name solely with vraic.
