Lé 29 Septembre

Eune poésie à propos (d'1873 - êcrithie modèrnîsée):
A topical poem (from 1873 - spelling has been modernised):

Mais tchi grand tas i' va mettre en dérive;
Car ch't' année est un an dé malheu;
Comment châtchun va-t-i' payi ses dettes;
Aiyiz Pitchi! Riches, aiyiz pitchi!

Car des rentchièrs i' faut bein ténîn compte
Épis dé pus ch'est lé jour du quart-d'an,
Dénonciateurs et Député-Vicomte,
Les Ecrivains, touos jusqu'à Moussieu Jean,
Îthont bétôt par campangne et par ville,
Comme jadis faîthait Thomas Sohyi;
Dithe payiz ou jé vos envyie bille,
Aiyiz Pitchi! Riches, aiyiz pitchi!

A series of out-of-the-ordinary entries translated from the Dictionnaire Jersiais-Français.
âqu'sies or âqu'sie, n.f.pl. Probably abbrev. of vieillâqu'sies, q.v. Doubtless people believed they were saying vieille âqu'sie. A lot of old stuff and rubbish... Some even say hâqu'sie. The term is becoming rare nowadays; however we used to hear it quite often in our youth, as âqu'thie or d'la hâqu'thie.

vieillâqu'thie, vieillâqu'sie, etc. Old thing, especially an old thing falling into disrepair; rubbish. The term is rather pejorative. Buying old things, old rubbish. An old thing like me!

Lé chein tch'a des ouothelles, tch'i' ouaie, tch'i' sait trans'mé,
sait êcliaithi par les auteurs et lus pouvé;

And to prove how colourful it all was, here are some pictures:

1965: En Avion!

Pan Am DC-8-33George d'La Forge explyitchit les viages en avion en 1965:

In 1965, George F. Le Feuvre described the exotic experience of transatlantic air travel to his Jèrriais readership:
