Brîngi

Yesterday evening's meeting of La Section d'la langue Jèrriaise turned out to be somewhat of a reading session. The latest issue of La Voix du Donjon was discussed, especially the colours of cows. The word brîngi brought up a point of interest: one of the members could remember it being used in English conversation to refer to children messing around on their bikes.

Un marmoûset - a monkey

Tchiqu's'uns d'nos êtudgiants sont à êchangi des cartes auve des cheins au Pays Gallo. Èrgardez chu marmoûset! Il est à craûler dans un bouais. Il a eune longue coue. Lé marmoûset est bein bé.

Some of our students are exchanging cards with students in the Gallo-speaking part of Brittany. Look at this monkey! He's swinging in a tree. He's got a long tail. The monkey is very good-looking.

La Saint Aubîn

Ch'n'est pon seulement les Gallouais tchi sont à célébrer aniet, viyant qu'les carpeleuses dé Saint Aubîn ont lus jour saint étout.

Today isn't just a day for celebrations with leeks and daffodils. It's also when some people mark Saint Aubin's day - though it's also celebrated on 29th February! Aubin was Bishop of Angers in 529AD and was noted for his holiness, generosity and his many miracles.
