As-tu considéthé qu'tu dait ocquo pour ta s'menche et tan gouâino?"

 

"Sans doute," j'l'y dit, "mais n'te fait pas d'mauvais sang. Tout chonna est payablye à la saison."

"now the sun breaks through, is a poetry anthology commissioned to mark the 25th anniversary of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement, and the linked 25th anniversary of the inaugural British-Irish Council Summit (December 2024). 

The rich linguistic heritage of the Council’s members is an important part of the culture of these islands. In recognition, Indigenous Minority and Lesser-Used languages was added to the Council’s portfolio of work sectors in June 2002. The work sector focuses on Irish, Welsh, Gaelic, Scots, Ulster Scots, Manx, Jèrriais, Guernesiais, and Cornish.

The poetry anthology recognises the efforts made across these islands to support these languages, which embody a wealth of knowledge, culture, and history that has been passed down through generations.

The British-Irish Council has collaborated with the Scottish Poetry Library to develop the poetry anthology, themed around the natural environment. Within the collection, readers are introduced to these languages, and their rhythms and expressions. The poems are composed by poets in the nine languages, and interpreted and adapted into English."

Ch't' èrchette graietha un p'tit pâté Cornouaillais.

îngrédgeins:

• d'la pâte (100g dé flieu, 50g dé beurre, dé l'ieau)
• 100g d'la viande dé vaque (ou 50g dé fronmage pouor eune vèrsion végétarienne)
• 50g dé patate
• 25g dé suidiche
• 10g d'ouognon
• eune pînchie d'sé

La Cornouaille

La Cornouaille (Kernow en Cornouaillais) est un pays tch'est un longis d'tèrre dans l'Seur-Vouêt d'la Grande Brétangne. Ch'est un pays historiquement Celtique et la langue Cornouaillaise est d'la même fanmil'ye qu'lé Gallouais et l'Bréton - nou trouve typiquement des noms d'pliaiche auve "pen", coumme Penzance (Pennsans en Cornouaillais).

Y'a raîque eune cité en Cornouaille: Truro (Truru en Cornouaillais), tch'est l'siège d'l'adminnistration, mais la pus grande ville est Falmue (Aberfala en Cornouaillais). La Seurlîngue a 'té eune partie d'la Cornouaille, mais au jour d'aniet oulle eune adminnistrâtion s'pathée.

Historiquement, les minnes à blianc-fé 'taient împortantes pouor l'êcononmie du pays, et la pêque étout.

Pouor l'temps d'la Contchête Nouormande, la Cornouaille avait 'té încorpouothée dans l'Rouoyaume d'Angliétèrre.

Lé saint patron est Saint Pithan dé tchi la fête est l'5 dé Mar.

La couleu Cornouaillaise est eune blianche crouaix sus un nièr fond. Coumme l'antienne nâtionnale nou chante sait eune vèrsion Cornouaillaise dé l'antienne "Pays d'mes péthes" sait la chanson "Trelawney". L'ouaîsé nâtionna est la caûvette à rouoge bé.

Un fricot traditionnel est l'pâté Cornouaillais.

Speak Cornish Week

It’s Speak Cornish week again and this year at Maga we are encouraging everyone to talk about what they like!

The Cornish for “I like…” is “Da yw Genev…” and this is the theme of this year’s #SpeakCornish week which runs from 4 to 13 July.

MAGA is inviting people to contribute drawings, photos or film of people using “Da yw genev…” to tell us what they like. During the week helpful vocabulary will be released on www.learncornishnow.com/speakcornishweek.

Last year the website www.learncornishnow.com received an impressive 10,000 extra visitors during #SpeakCornish week, and over 200 individuals and businesses posted films of themselves using Cornish online, ran promotions and competitions and arranged activities. The tag #SpeakCornish made half a million impressions in one hour!

The Cornish language Saturday school was shown on ITV’s West Country News before Christmas, because students from Cornwall College in Redruth have been working with Movyans Skolyow Meythrin to produce a CD and accompanying booklet of Cornish language songs for preschool age children and their families.
