Milk-é-Pan'tch

Au temps pâssé les jannes gens d'la Ville soulaient atchilyi l'Êté au c'menchEment du mais d'Mai - l'preunmié Dînmanche - en griyant du milk-é-pan'tch. Habilyis en blianc, i' lus en allaient ès côtis auve du lait trait tout frais d'la vaque, d's oeux prîns du poulaillyi, du chucre et du rhonme et y b'vaient lus milk-é-pan'tch. D'aut' bord dans l'Île ch'tait eune couôteunme d'la Saint Jean.

Pouor graie du milk-é-pan'tch au jour d'aniet:

îngrédgeins:

• 500ml dé lait
• eune tchullée (ou deux s'lon san goût) d'chucre
• un oeu
• un lèrmîn (ou pus) d'rhonme
• d'la muscade

Caûffez douochement l'lait - i' dait êt' tchiède coumme s'nou-s'avait justément trait sa vaque! Ajouôtez l'chucre et l'oeu d'battu, épis autant d'rhonme qu'ous en voulez. Grattez un mio d'muscade sus et dêmêlez. Vèrsez dans des vèrres et b'vez à l'Êté tchi veindra!

Milk-é-Pan'tch was a drink traditionally made at the beginning of May (1st Sunday) in Town or elswhere in Jersey at mid-Summer. Young folk would steal (beg, or "borrow") milk fresh from the cow, eggs freshly laid from a henhouse, and with some sugar, nutmeg and rum (or other spirit) sit out on the côtils, dressed in white, to welcome the Summer with this heady drink.
