The Evening Post reported the 1923 commemoration of the Battle of Jersey:
...That from the Jersey Boy Scouts bore the following inscription, which in pre-war days was placed on the wreaths then sent by the lineal descendant of Peirson, now deceased, and also on the wreath placed on the tomb by Mr. Ed. Gavey:
"Not once or twice in our fair Island's storyThe path of duty was the way to glory."To the undying memory of Major Francis Peirson and his brave companions who laid down their lives on Jan. 6, 1781, in defending'Not'e chier p'tit pais.'
