Today is the date of the traditional Viaër Marchi in Guernsey. Although the word for market is written the same in both languages: marchi - the accompanying adjective for old differs: we write vièr.
In Jersey, of course, lé Vièr Marchi is the Jèrriais name for the Royal Square. The market used to be held there until being moved away from the Royal Court in the C19th for reasons of nuisance, noise and smell.
No need to expect nuisance, noise and smell at the Viaër Marchi - just good clean Guernsey fun!
