Estanme, êtanme - Worsted
At the café this morning (chat every Thursday at Costa Coffee, Bath Street, Saint Helier, 10.30-11.30am -ish - all welcome including eavesdroppers!) some participants were attempting a little word quiz apparently dating from the early C20th or perhaps end of C19th. Among the old-fashioned vocab in the quiz, the word for worsted was included; cue a discussion of how to say worsted, the woollen material, in Jèrriais. The dictionaries give estanme, but around the tables in the café there were memories of the form êtanme being used. Another one for the Dictionary addenda!
