Yearning

Language Log discusses the translatability of "yearning" in a blogpost "Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt".

aver l'landgi dans les cricots = to yearn

The Dictionnaire explains that this conveys ardent desire or longing that can even cover sadness. The verb landgi means to pine or languish and the reflexive s'landgi means to linger, hang back, hang around.
