A letter in the Guardian says:
Two cheers for Simon Jenkins's column on disappearing nightingales (Comment, 19 April). He knows that Italians have a sexual connotation for the song. But it's not just Italians – British folk songs are riddled with couples stopping to hear the nightingales sing, and quite often pregnancy ensues…Et des chansons en Jèrriais:
